Una madre Velociraptor y sus crías. Me inspiró ver a una avestruz con sus polluelos.

A mother Velociraptor and its youngs. I was inspired by seeing an ostrich with its chicks.

Nice Velociraptor. If you check the few I've uploaded, they're weighted heavily in the dromaeosaur department. I love the way yours looks just ready to scratch an itch on her ankle. One of my Deinonychus is just strolling along, not doing anything in particular. I have a feeling that's what they did most of the time.

I love the idea of baby Velociraptors. It's interesting, but your little guys look like some baby Orodromeus I'm working on: big eyes, big feet, juvenile appearance. :)

Again, I love your dino art. It's the best and I think I can learn a lot from it.

This is such an imaginative interpretation of a velociraptor! I love the fact that she's with her chicks, and the details are wonderful. Nicely drawn.

Wow!, my friend you seem to have the mind of a Naturalist, Anatomist and an Anthropologist. Your drawings have that edge and supreme detail and an elegance feel to them.

I'm wondering about your drawing, about the maternal instinct in velociraptors.

Thank you very much! :)
I'm think that, given that velociraptors where among the smartest group of dinosaurs, their maternal instinct would have been similar to that in some modern birds.

Oh, wow. Thanks for the info. Sure that behaviour is a very complex un that requires a complex brain, and improves survival.

A lovely scene, and great technique! Too many people forget that raptors could be gentle and loving as well as fierce and terrifying!

I like how detailed this is, but not how disproportionate it looks. Specifically, the legs are too long & the foot claws are too small. Tom Holtz put it best when he said "if the known fossil skeleton conflicts with the shape of the reconstruction, the reconstruction must be wrong".

W/that, I included the following Velociraptor skeletons for future reference. I hope it helps.

There's also the arrangement of your Velociraptor's wing feathers to fix (see the 1st paragraph under "Feathered fingers and hand flags"): [link]

W/that, I included the following Velociraptor drawing for future reference. Again, I hope it helps.

Thanks a lot! I love to receive constructive criticism, so I can correct my errors :)
I used one of skeletons drawings that you show me, this one: [link]
I just made some measures, and you're right, the legs are a little too long, but I think that the more vertical position in wich I draw them make them look longer: [link]

Of course that if the skeleton conflicts with the reconstruction, the problem is the reconstruction. So it's my mistake ;)

Thanks you very much for the info about the feathers too! :)

PD: I mean that the way in wich I draw the legs make them look even longer than they already are.

Woohoo, the full view is finally avialable!! It wasn't working at first for some reason. I totally agree with Mafeo, the transition from scales to feathers is brilliant and seamless. I'm also digging the way you handled the feathers on the arms. I can totally see the ostrich influence in here...And now I know how to say "ostrich" in Spanish!

I also noted that your proportions for a V. mongoliensis are much more realistic than what I often see; people generally tend to make the toe claw way too big.

The graphite work is beautiful, but that goes without saying. Makes me wonder if I should experiment with some softer pencils...

:XD: hahaha, I'm glad you're learning more spanish!

Thanks for your kind words. The transition from scales to feathers, that you and Mafeo mention, its not that difficult, in fact, at least for me, was one of the easiest things to do in this drawing, hehe.

About the softer pencils, I used them more in my oldest drawings. And I use them when I sketch in large size papers. Maybe I will use them more in a new drawing I have in mind.
